I took the old monitor and set it up as a second display on my daughter's Mac mini which is still running Snow Leopard. (Lion being the one commonality between my Macbook Air and my wife's Mac mini.) I ended up buying a new monitor. My conclusion is that some DVI monitors just don't work with Lion. So I went back to the Apple store to pick up a mini display port to DVI converter. I reported it using the Feedback option and also updated to the new Monterey Beta hoping for a fix, but no dice. Maybe the USB ports are not getting enough voltage somehow after this update.

I tried another monitor with the HDMI to DVI converter and the video came through just fine. I also noticed that my Android phone is charging way slower now. I brought the new mini home, plugged it in, and I had no video just like the first one. While installing the software updates at the Genius Bar, that mini kenel panicked. Using Windows in Boot Camp, Im able to get the extended mode closing the lid, but on macOS, I cant. Im trying to use the HDMI ports to get my two Philips monitors to go in extended mode on my Macbook Pro. Hold the left Shift + Control + Option keys together, then press and hold the Power button down. To reset the SMC, follow the steps below.

Mac hdmi adapter not working after update pro#
I called Apple Care, they made an appointment with me at the Genius Bar, I took the new mini in and, using the same display adapter, it worked fine with their monitor. I recently bought a dual HDMI Omars USB-C Laptop Docking Station adapter for my Macbook Pro 2016 13.3' with touchbar. So if you’re having screen issues, such as the HDMI not working on Mac after Catalina update, resetting the SMC might help. I plugged the old Mac mini (circa 2007 but updated to Snow Leopard) in and the video worked just fine. The screen is on and functioning just before the login screen: it then flashes and it goes into HDMI Power Saving Mode (which I interpret as no signal) When hooked up to a Sony 4K TV, both Mac Mini and the same HDMI cable work ok. It might be worth trying also with a cheaper adapter from ICY for instances, given that my MacBook Pro is working well with such an adaptor on the HP monitor but with an HDMI output port. I think that that Apple has also DVI-HDMI cable but didn't try yet. The first thing you must do is make sure there’s no issue with HDMI port or the cable. The good news is that you can fix the issue with the solutions shared in this post.

Mac hdmi adapter not working after update update#
There was no video from the HDMI to DVI converter. I don’t remember if I had automatic updates on but after 11.0.1 it all stop working. I bought the apple adaptor HDMI to USB-C and use same cheap cable DVI-HDMI and worked. After running a Windows 10 update or upgrading to Windows 10, you may find that the system refuses to detect TV. A few days ago I tried to set up a new Mac mini for my wife. Same problem here with a Specter x20G Naga III monitor. So if you’re having screen issues, such as the HDMI not working on Mac after Catalina update, resetting the SMC might help.
